Nov 20, 2010 · There definitely does not have to be a noticeable ridge for a neck to qualify as a "V" at Gibson. By the way, if it's any comfort, the SJ never had what most would call a "V"-shaped neck, so a pronounced "V" would hardly be traditional. A WGSJ really should have a "C"-shaped neck (and a big ol' fat "C" at that).

Feb 15, 2015 · As far as nut width, the basic standards are 1-11/16" and 1-3/4", and Gibson's standard is right smack in between the two, which I've found to be fine, and I've found the neck profile on the Hummingbird to be more than fine. I wasn't asking about comparing and contrasting. Folks brought that up of their own volition.

For Gibson, it was a sort of turning point in that this is when neck shapes went away from the thick, fat baseball bat shapes to the more slimmer, easier to play shapes that are more common on all guitars these days.
