In the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, many debris haulers are already at work in North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. So Volusia County government officials are using their forces to help contractors clear debris in the unincorporated areas and along county-maintained roads, county spokesman Michael Ryan said in an email to the News-Journal.

Hurricane Milton is being blamed for another death in Volusia County after a tree crashed through a couple's home, killing Karan Zahnen and seriously injuring her husband, James Zahnen.The incident occurred while the couple was inside their Ormond Beach home during the storm.

Two people were killed in Volusia County after trees fell on their homes during Hurricane Milton, the Volusia Sheriff's Office confirmed. A third death was reported but was possibly caused by a medical emergency and not storm related, VSO said.
