Hundreds across Central Florida are still picking up the pieces after Hurricane Milton swept through and volunteers in Volusia County are hitting the streets to help clean up debris.

In the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, many debris haulers are already at work in North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. So Volusia County government officials are using their forces to help contractors clear debris in the unincorporated areas and along county-maintained roads, county spokesman Michael Ryan said in an email to the News-Journal.

Two people were killed in Volusia County after trees fell on their homes during Hurricane Milton, the Volusia Sheriff's Office confirmed. A third death was reported but was possibly caused by a medical emergency and not storm related, VSO said.
