Hurricane Oscar, now downgraded to a tropical storm over Cuba, was the smallest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin.

The storm’s forecast track poses no threat to Florida. Oscar formed Saturday off the coast of the Bahamas and brushed past the Turks and Caicos islands to the south. The National Hurricane Center earlier characterized the storm as “tiny,” but hurricane warnings were in place Sunday for southeastern Bahamas and portions of Cuba.

While Hurricane Oscar intensified quickly since Saturday and landed as a Category 1 hurricane in the Caribbean Islands, it will avoid Florida.
