Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday at the BRICS summit in Russia, India's foreign secretary said, their first meeting since 2020 when ties nosedived after their forces clashed on their disputed frontier.

This significant meeting follows a recent agreement between India and China on border patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, signaling progress toward resolving the lingering border standoff.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri did not confirm the timing of the meeting. This is the first formal meeting between the two leaders of state in 5 years.
