Stock market today: Dow and S&P 500 notch record highs as earnings season kicks off
The Dow and S&P 500 notched new highs on Friday, with the broader index closing above 5,800 for the first time as big US banks got earnings season underway. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) rose nearly 1% as JPMorgan Chase (JPM) shares surged.
Stock market today: Wall Street gains ground and adds to its records
The S&P 500 was up 0.8% in afternoon trading and building on its record set on Friday. The Dow Jones Industrial Average came back from an early loss to rise 212 points and add 0.5% to its own record, as of 2:25 p.m. Eastern time, while the Nasdaq composite was up 0.9%.
