Montgomery County police arrested the suspect and charged him with a hate crime. Police said the unidentified rabbi was walking on the sidewalk on Arcola Avenue, near Kemp Mill Road, a few minutes before 10 a.m., when he was approached by a man who hit him with the wooden stake, then left the area. The rabbi suffered minor injuries.

The attack on a rabbi occurred shortly before 10 a.m. in the 1400 block of Arcola Avenue in the Wheaton area, police said.

There, a Rabbi told police that he was walking down the sidewalk when a man, later identified as 47-year-old Junior Michael Reece, swung a wooden stake at him and hit him for unknown reasons. Reece then left the area.
